Our Foundation
The natural right of self-preservation
“Natural rights” are the rights all people possess. Because we enjoy these rights, we may also be obligated to act—or to refrain from acting—in certain ways. The protection of natural rights is one of the reasons our Founding Fathers added the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
There are many natural rights, but each can be understood as an inference from one original right: the right of every person to preserve his or her own life. From self-preservation come other natural rights, including the rights to liberty and to own property. Natural rights teach that we have not only the right, but also an obligation, to preserve our own lives.
That responsibility is the foundation of NRF Academy. Responsible firearms ownership requires sound judgment, safe habits, practical knowledge, and the ability to act with confidence when circumstances demand it.
Your Instructor
Kent Graham
My name is Kent Graham. I do not come from a career in law enforcement, the military, or another armed service. I worked in the oil field, farming, construction, and the chemical industry. I also served for 16 years as the safety manager for a local chemical company, where I developed and implemented OSHA-regulated safety and environmental training.
That background shaped the way I teach: explain the reason behind the lesson, build safe and repeatable habits, and give ordinary people practical skills they can use with confidence.

Classroom instruction: Basic and fundamentals classes use SIRT training pistols and classroom exercises. Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals and Mississippi Enhanced Carry include a textbook. Textbooks for other classes may be purchased for $20 at class time.
